This is a new invasive pest that attacks fruit that has become a menace for several crops of high economic importance in Europe
Our company presented today the results of field trials with their specifically designed biological attractant Suzukii Trap™, which has proved efficacy and a high degree of selectivity

Bioiberica attended today the “PHYTOMA-Spain International encounter on Drosophila Suzukii which was held at the Valencia Polytechnic University. This new invasive pest attacks fresh fruit was first detected in Tarragona in October 2008. From there, it began invading other Spanish regions and European countries. In Spain, Drosophila Suzukii affects mostly cherries, strawberry and small fruits such as blackberries, raspberries and blueberries, although it has also been detected in plum, peach, nectarine, persimmon and other soft pulp fruits, as well as in wine producing grapevine plots in France.

Our company, that has been studying this specie for more than five years, presented today the results of the field trials with their biological attractant Suzukii Trap™, a product specifically designed against this specie. First marketed in 2014, it has demonstrated a high attractant capacity and a high degree of selectivity. Furthermore, in 2015 there will be new mass trapping field trials in Portugal, France, Italy and Spain.

The event organizers expressed their appreciation for Bioiberica’s “…interest, commitment and pro-activeness in the fight against this new extremely invasive pest”. The presentation was attended by international experts coming from Brazil, Poland, United Kingdom, France and Spain, among other countries.
