Bioiberica’s Plant Physiology Division hosts the visit of a delegation of Mexican Congresspersons and experts interested in ecological methods to fight the fruit fly

A Mexican delegation composed of 22 persons from different backgrounds visited Catalonia and Spain on May 20-30, 2011, invited by Bioiberica’ Plant Physiology Division.


Clic to enlarge photoThe delegation, composed of several members of the Mexican parliament, held several meetings with the Commissions of Agriculture of the Catalan and Spanish Parliaments. Likewise, the Mexican experts had the opportunity to exchange experience on plant health care with local experts.
The delegation included the Mexican congresspersons which are members of the Special Commission for Citrus cultivation, the president and some leading members of the Sistema Producto Cítricos, the president and some members of CEDEFRUIT (Centre for Fruit Production and Development in the Humid Tropical areas), and the members of the Produce Veracruz Foundation, a technology transfer centre.
Clic to enlargeThe delegation, that included as well some representatives of large scale fruit producers, had also the opportunity to visit cultivation areas protected by mass trapping techniques, as well as Research Centres on Tropical and sub tropical fruit cultivation. They visited also Mercamadrid to see personally how a Spanish wholesale market works. When in Barcelona, they visited the Mercat de la Boquería to see an example of a retail marketplace. Finally, the Mexican parliamentary delegation visited also Bioiberica’s facilities, where Cera Trap, the fully organic system to fight the fruit fly, is produced.
This tour organized by Bioiberica’s Plant Physiology Division, allowed the Mexican delegation to have first hand knowledge of the Spanish productive system using Cera Trap, the liquid attractant which uses the mass trapping technique to fight the fruit fly. Another of the objectives of the commission was to know how it works the commercialization process of fruit and vegetable products oriented to the exportation of different fruit species, specially that of citric products.
